I am a Healthy Start Employer: Robert E. Lee High School (DCPS)

Congratulations to Robert E. Lee High School (DCPS) for receiving certification as a silver-level I am a Healthy Start Employer for creating a culture of health and wellbeing for families in the workplace!

The certification is awarded to employers that work hard to ensure families receive the support and education they need before, during and after pregnancy. There are three levels of certification: Bronze, Silver & Gold. Certification is based on a self-assessment completed with I am a Healthy Start Employer staff.

To receive the silver-level certification, Robert E. Lee High School met requirements around breastfeeding; information and resources; policies; and child care.

Robert E Lee received the recognition for the supportive environment that enables lactating students to return to school and attend class while they continue to breastfeed. Mrs. Sherry Hawk, School Guidance Office, has a true passion for the unique needs of teen parents and worked hard in the recently updated area to ensure the school has a private, clean, non-restroom location for students to pump along with education and resources for successful breastfeeding and parenting. She worked to obtain milk storage bags, new tubing and guards to fit the needs of all who use the lactation space.
