Florida releases final infant mortality rates; state, region see historically low rates
The state released the final infant mortality statistics for 2011 and the news is good for Florida’s families: The infant mortality rate has fallen to 6.4 deaths per 1,000 live births, a historic low and down 33 percent from 1990.
The full Florida Vital Statistics Reports can be found here.
The overall infant mortality rate in Northeast Florida continued to improve in 2011 and, for the first time, is comparable to the statewide rate. The area’s infant death rate was 6.5 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2011 compared to 7.2 deaths per 1,000 in 2010. Read our blog from May 2011 about the local infant mortality rates.
