Your questions, answered

Find clear answers to common questions about our programs, services and how to get the support your family deserves.

Getting started

We serve pregnant women, new mothers, and families with children under age 5 throughout Northeast Florida. Many of our services are available to all families regardless of income, insurance status or immigration status. Specific programs may have additional eligibility requirements, which we’ll discuss during your initial consultation.

All Northeast Florida Healthy Start programs and services are provided at no cost to families. We’re funded through federal grants, state funding and community partnerships to ensure cost is never a barrier to accessing care.

Getting started is simple! You can complete our online eligibility form, call us directly, or have a healthcare provider, social worker or community member refer you. We’ll connect you with a care coordinator who will help determine which services best fit your family’s needs.

Services & programs

Programs include group classes, educational workshops, support groups and community initiatives that you can participate in with other families. Services provide direct one-on-one support like care coordination, home visits, resource navigation and personalized assistance tailored to your specific situation.

Support duration varies by program, but we typically serve families from pregnancy through their child’s fifth birthday. Some services may extend longer based on your family’s needs. We believe in providing support for as long as it’s beneficial to your family’s health and wellbeing.

We serve families throughout Northeast Florida, including Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties. Some specialized programs like the Magnolia Project serve specific ZIP codes within these areas.

Absolutely! Many families benefit from combining different programs and services. Your care coordinator will help you create a personalized plan that might include group classes, individual support and community resources.

Privacy & confidentiality

Yes! We have several programs specifically designed for fathers and partners, including the Magnolia Project’s fatherhood component, parenting classes and support groups. We believe healthy families include engaged fathers and supportive partners.

We only share information when you give us written permission to do so, or when required by law (such as mandatory reporting of child abuse). Any sharing is done to better coordinate your care and connect you with additional resources.

We strive to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services. We have bilingual staff and can arrange interpreters for many languages. Please let us know your language preferences when you contact us.

Support & resources

If you’re experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 immediately. For mental health crises, call the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Our care coordinators can also help you access crisis resources and develop safety plans during regular business hours.

Absolutely! Resource navigation and connecting families to community supports is a core part of what we do. We maintain extensive knowledge of local resources for housing, food assistance, childcare, employment, and more.

If you move within our service area, we’ll continue supporting your family. If you move outside Northeast Florida, we’ll help you connect with similar services in your new location to ensure continuity of care.

Working with us

Your first visit will be welcoming and informal. We’ll discuss your family’s needs, goals and any concerns you have. Together, we’ll create a personalized plan for services and support. There’s no pressure, and you’re always in control of what services you choose to use.

Contact frequency depends on your needs and preferences. Some families prefer weekly check-ins, while others need monthly or as-needed contact. Your care coordinator will work with you to determine what level of support feels right for your family.

Yes, participation in all programs is voluntary. You can pause or stop services at any time without penalty. If your needs change, you can also restart services. We’re here when you need us.
