Dr. Michael Lu, a renowned researcher, teacher, doctor and proponent of the life course approach to health, has been named the new Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA) Associate Administrator for Maternal and Child Health.
The MCH Bureau oversees federal programs like the Title V, The Maternal and Child Health Services Block Grant and the federal Healthy Start program.
Dr. Lu has visited Jacksonville in the past to discuss the latest findings on factors that contribute to high infant mortality rates in Jacksonville, as part of JCCI’s infant mortality study in December 2007.
Dr. Lu is currently an associate professor of obstetrics & gynecology and public health at UCLA. Dr. Lu received his bachelor’s degrees from Stanford University, master’s degrees from UC Berkeley, medical degree from UC San Francisco, and residency training in obstetrics & gynecology from UC Irvine.
Dr. Lu is known for his preeminent position in the maternal and child health field and for his service to MCHB as the current Chair of the Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Infant Mortality (SACIM).
