2022 Philip Gilbert Award Recipient: Leslie Allen

The Philip Gilbert Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service was presented posthumously to Leslie Allen, who passed away Dec. 24, 2021. The award, given each year, is reserved for a dedicated and passionate volunteer who shares Healthy Start’s vision and actively contributes to the realization of Coalition goals.

Ms. Allen was a dedicated Coalition member who joined in 2014 and served until her passing in 2021. She was an advocate for children and a leader in the field of infant mental health. Ms. Allen was a long-time active member on the Contracts and Quality Improvement sub-committee, where she utilized her expertise and extensive experience to ensure families were receiving the best services possible.

The award is given in honor of the late Philip H. Gilbert, founding chair of the Coalition and executive vice-president of the Duval County Medical Society, who devoted countless hours to advocating for and supporting services to meet the needs of the underserved in Northeast Florida. It honors individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to Healthy Start and the health of women, infants and families.
